8 Best Android Backup Apps

Many diligent users won't skimp when it comes to backing up their desktop machine, but how many can say the same about their phones? Keeping a backup for your Android phone can feel like an unnecessary chore--until disaster strikes. Your device is stolen, you install a bad ROM, or you drop your phone in a puddle, and suddenly, you find yourself in a fix. While Google automatically backs up your contacts, Gmail, and calendars, you can also do a lot to save your apps, as well as app data and settings. Here are some of the best Android backup apps to help keep your data safe.

1. Helium App Sync and Backup:   The excellent Helium - App Sync & Backup is ClockworkMod's entry into the mobile backup app space. Like the best backup apps, Helium allows users to back up apps, data, contacts, SMS, and your call log, but unlike many backup apps, Helium can do all this without needing to root your device. Unrooted users will have to install an extra desktop app to work with the mobile app when plugged in to a PC, while users with a rooted device just run Helium out of the box. A paid premium version offers cloud uploading of backups, backup scheduling, and no ads

2.Ultimate Backup:  J. Rummy Apps' Ultimate Backup provides users with a versatile app manager for backing up applications and data. Ultimate Backup features local and cloud backups (with app data and settings requiring root) over Drive, Box, and Dropbox, a built-in uninstaller and task killer, cache clearing, and more. In addition to apps, you can also back up calls, bookmarks, Wi-Fi details, and more. Ultimate Backup provides a good set of system tools for free, even if you're not rooted, with the premium version adding task scheduling, restoring backups from the cloud, and other advanced features

3.Titanium Backup: Own a rooted Android device or thinking of rooting it?Titanium Backup is a reliable workhorse for Android backups, with the free version allowing you to back up and restore apps and app data such as contacts, SMS logs, and more to internal storage, with convenient batch actions automating many common tasks. The premium version adds a host of powerful features, such as cloud backups and cloud restoring. You can also automate your backup schedules, selectively back up items, and then move your backup data to an SD Card.

4.My Backup Pro: My Backup is a reliable app backup and management tool for Android devices. My Backup provides app backup functions, with automated backup scheduling, cloud backups, and more. While My Backup works well on non-rooted phones, the true potential of the app is unlocked when you run it on a rooted phone, allowing it to back up not just apps, but also app data and settings such as saved games, market links, and more. A free 30-day trial version lets you demo the app.

5.Super Backup: Super Backup is a fast and free backup tool for your Android phone that can back up up and restore phone data, as well as applications and settings (with root), and automate backups with scheduling. Backups can be saved to SD Card, internal storage, PC, or Gmail (though that would be clunky for anything other than phone data). There's no cloud backup option save for Gmail, so you'll need to import your backups to the cloud, SD card, or PC manually. As a plus, Super Backup offers all of its functionality free, with the premium purchase removing ads from the mix.

6.Mobile Backup & Restore : A relatively new entry in the Android backup apps field is Avast's Mobile Backup & Restore. The free version backs up your contacts, SMS, call logs, and photos, while music, videos, photos, and app backups are only available with a premium monthly subscription. Mobile Backup & Restore really stands out with its task scheduling and automatic backup features, which are a breeze to set up and come with a wealth of triggers for backing up by batch or selectively to Drive and Avast's servers. Rooted premium users can also save app data. While not as technically exacting as some other options, Avast's backup offering is among the easiest to use.

7.SMS Backup + : If you're less concerned about backing up your apps and more focused on your messages and call logs, then give SMS Backup + a try. The app automatically syncs your SMS, MMS, and call logs to your Gmail account in a tagged label. Automatic backup settings let you configure when and how often the app backs up your messages. Messages can then be restored through the tagged label. While SMS Backup + is nowhere near as comprehensive as other options (and some users report issues with KitKat), this app provides a simple way to keep an extra copy of your message and call logs.

8.ROM Manager: While not primarily a backup app, ROM Manager by ClockworkMod is a powerful system tool for rooted devices that can easily create full Android backups, which are essentially clones of your phone in its current state. In addition to creating backups, you can view their contents, and restore ROMs. While not as adept for migrating devices as a dedicated backup app with cloud storage, ROM Manager's features are great for users tinkering with custom ROMS and builds. You'll be able to create and manage system restore points in case you soft-brick your device
